We manufacture leather bags, totally by hand, do hand stitching only and use carefully selected top- and full-grain leather which is tanned to our exacting standards.
Our manufacturing technique is based on the 18th Century manufacturing method of old Europe and England. With added modern ergonomic principles, our bags will outlive the short lives of modern fashion, yet give image and style to the wearer. We have added the “female” touch to designs and made sure that our bags are user friendly.
Our carefully selected fittings and fasteners make us unique on the African continent. This was due to a diligent search for designs and enhancing these in our own manufacturing workshop. Hand manufacturing forces us to a limit of 40 units per month. But this allows us to market our LIMITED EDITION bags only to very carefully selected outlets over the world.
Our leather selection and careful proud quality control allows us to read and cut our leather to ensure the best possible appearance, rather than make the most bags out of each skin. Fortunately for us, the off-cut leather pieces are ideal for our bangle manufacturing unit.
Matzi Leather is now displaying their work to tourists in the Old Jail building in Vanrhynsdorp which has been re-opened as a Crafters venue.
